Datura is a plant that induces hallucinogenic effects with a predominant action due to atropine. The induced psychological effects are short-lived, less than 2 days. However, in the event of serious poisoning, cardio-respiratory symptoms may be observed, which can sometimes lead to death. There is no real addiction to datura, due to its side effects, but any consumption should alert the general practitioner to understand the reasons for such use and address them.
