Characteristics and Determinants of Female Informal Employment in Algeria: The Case of Bejaia

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2014. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : We examine female activity in Algeria according to a sample of 783 economically active women drawn from a household survey conducted in Bejaia in 2012. By means of a multinomial logit model and a series of earnings functions, we identify the determinants of access and earnings of women in the different segments of the labor market (formal and informal). A low education level increases the likelihood of entering the informal sector, which confirms the hypothesis of segmentation of the labor market and emphasizes the existence of a subsistence segment within the informal sector.
