The paper examines the agroecology practices among peasants in the Peruvian Andes, from a perspective of socio-anthropology of development. After analyzing the emergence of the concept of agroecology and discussing peasant and family farming, it presents two case studies from Cajamarca and Ancash. These field studies highlight that agroecology is a way of legitimizing peasant practices in the face of other practices and also a way of combining a rediscovered past and a desirable future in the same set of agricultural practices.
