Economic evaluation of the ecosystem services of the marine protected area of the Niamone-Kalounayes (Senegal)

This article deals with the economic valuation of ecosystem services of the Niamone-Kalounayes marine protected area in Senegal. Various economic valuation tools and methods were used. The results show that climate regulation services have the greatest value, followed by the fish biomass production service, ecosystem protection, and research support. Bodies of water generate the most economic value followed by mangroves, barren saltine areas, and mudflats. These results could be used to support negotiations with policymakers and advocacy for the protection of aquatic ecosystems.
