The article outlines the history of the Kultura Literary Institute, founded by Polish war veterans who took refuge in Rome and settled in France in 1947. Their magazine Kultura (1947-2000) and their numerous publications illustrate their passion for both politics and culture. They were fundamentally hostile to Soviet totalitarianism and, until the final decades of the twentieth century, supported exiles and dissident movements in Poland and in Eastern countries.
