Stemming the tide. The sources of anti-populist discourse in the newspaper Le Monde (2016-2017)
Type de matériel :
34
This paper analyses a corpus including all the articles published in the French newspaper Le Monde between 2016-2017 on the topic of populism. It builds on the literature that focuses on “populology”, i.e. the nexus of academic, political and media discourses taking populism as their object. Through the combination of lexicography and metaphor analysis, it shows how the pejorative modes of designation and representation of populism convey and reinforce the pitfalls of the dominant anti-populist discourse.
