Scientific research is work, but is it considered a job like any other? Are the socio-professional categories in the field of research, which have been relatively untouched by difficult working conditions thus far, going to withstand the suffering at work caused by the need to improve the “performance” of public service? In this article, Stéphane Le Lay sets out to answer these questions by analyzing the changes in working conditions in the field of public research, both from the point of view of engineers, technicians, and administrative staff, as well as that of researchers.
