The Dépôt de la guerre during the Consulate and the Empire. From conservation to documentation
Type de matériel :
19
Among the documents conserved in the AF IV collection of Napoleonic documents at the French National Archives are those of a very particular source: the Dépôt de la guerre, an archival collection made from and for armies in the field which, during the Consulate and the Empire, was transformed into a centre for documentation and even, from time to time, analysis. The Dépôt de la guerre was a tool used by the Emperor and his generals-in-chief, and as such it contributed to the establishment of operational intelligence. Michel Roucaud explains its workings and the nature of the content of this major historical source of communication between Napoleon and those he commanded in his military projects.
