Under the pretext of being “anti-Œdipal,” Guattari has been portrayed as an enemy of psychoanalysis. His project, however, is antinomical to this reputation. Rather than polemics and denunciation, he delighted in invention and promotion of new ideas. His work and his activism attempted to give its full scope to the Freudian invention of an unconscious desire: he tried to unfold its implication in the therapeutic field, in philosophical thinking and in revolutionary action.
