From ruined housing to social housing. The case of the Medina of Fez (Morocco)

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2021. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : "In Fez, a large part of the “Social Housing” program was aimed at rehousing families in the ruinous housing in the Medina ; i.e., rehousing the population occupying the “social” component of the traditional housing (houses occupied by the poor), which had been long neglected in the various programs aimed at redeveloping the “fabric” of the Medina. As a result, part of this fabric has collapsed, while another part has deteriorated to the point of becoming a “dangerous ruin.” The affected families have been relocated to the outlying neighborhoods, including Sahrij Gnaoua. The challenge of this rehousing outside the walls was also to de-densify the Medina and to recover land—comprising “traditional housing”—for tourism projects, in accordance with the guidelines of the World Bank."
