This article, written just after the 7th of January 2015, tries to engage with the political situation in the aftermath of the event. The first part articulates an alternative vocabulary for describing contemporary terrorism as a substitute for the hypocritical and abstract condemnation of any sort of confusion between islam and terrorism. It tries briefly to address the problem of contemporary terrorism as being a modern political phenomenon having much more to do with a crisis of a common world than with a so-called « return of the religious » or with « Islam ». It ends by raising some questions about the way racializations of Muslims and « religion » can be seen as post-colonial effects in contemporary France.
