Evangelical Russian-speaking Churches

Because they are seen as products of the Western world and its liberal model, evangelical churches in Russia are subject to increased control by government authorities. As a result, the political involvement of church members is often coerced or forced, and is part of a thinly veiled critique of Russian society as a whole. This is reflected in the evangelicals’ use of socio-professional networks that develop outside the usual networks and, above all, are outward-looking. The most disaffected individuals often opt to emigrate to Western countries.
