In spite of a relatively effective peace process implemented at institutional and political levels, numerous episodes of physical and symbolic violence still take place at urban interfaces between Protestant and Catholic neighborhoods. Because they are one of the few places where Protestants and Catholics can meet, the interfaces offer multiple opportunities for incidents and conflicts; at the same time, however, they represent a key place to hold negotiations with the aim of fostering genuine reconciliation between the two communities. This article explores the relationships between negotiations held at the interfaces and discussions organized at the regional level, and focuses on the specific difficulties encountered at the local level.
