Further research on negotiation from the viewpoint of political science proves to be both logical and fruitful. This paper shows that negotiation and traditional topics in political science share a similar historical background. Moreover, from an epistemological point of view, negotiation and political science also share interesting ambivalences as academic fields and research areas. Lastly, negotiation relates to challenges, summons actors, or questions concepts that are all at the heart of political science. Given these commonalities, analyzing negotiation through the lens of political science proves to be useful, and this paper opens some potential areas for research, namely a political analysis of the hiatus between the “Age of negotiation” (Zartman) and the difficult development of negotiation in France. Finally, we suggest a taxonomy of the political critiques of negotiation in France, and identify factors that could shift the impetus to the disadvantage of negotiation.
