The World March of Women and food sovereignty as a new issue for feminism

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2017. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : This article focuses on the action of the World March of Women in the area of food sovereignty. Using data from organisational documents, as well as from interviews with 40 of its representatives, the authors show how this engagement with food sovereignty illustrates some of the March’s major traits as a specific form of transnational feminist activism, notably its roots in the living and working conditions of women from the popular sectors, as well as its politics of alliances with mixed-gender social movements. The article grants a central place to the agency of rural and peasant women from the South and the re-signifying work involved in making food sovereignty into a new feminist issue, as well as to the combined effects of these factors on the feminism of the March.
