This paper presents the social-political dimensions from Carl Rogers’ contribution through the Person Centered Approach helping relationships. The qualities of an effective helping relationship, as proposed by Rogers, are summarized before presenting the background from which his ideas arose. The development of Rogers contribution is described, through the stages from the Non-Directive Counseling to Person Centered Approach. It also points out the fact that Rogers initiated the Counseling clinical dimension when he focused the person and not the problem, the relationship instead of the psychological evaluation and the change process more than the result of the counseling. The actualizing and the formative tendencies, the foundations of the Person Centered Approach, are defined, both indicating a directional process toward wholeness, and actualization of potentialities presented not only in the person but in the universe as well. The facilitative climate is permeated by three psychological attitudes : congruence, empathic understanding and unconditional positive regard. The positive notion of power is explored through the concepts of collaborative and personal power to introduce a Person Centered Approach politics in all its endeavors, from micro to macro social, within different cultures. The Peace Project initiated by Rogers at the Center for Studies of the Person, encompassing the work with large groups for tension reduction through dialog, delineates the realm of its political dimension. This paper presents the paradigm offered by Rogers that humankind is self-motivated, constructive, trustworthy, creative, and powerful, given a facilitative psychological climate. As an example of the potentiality of that Approach, the author shares her experiences and theoretical reflections about the Psychological Duty Service which goal is to facilitate a better understanding of the person and his/her immediate situation. We believe that being heard at the right moment the person feels the need of helping, stimulates the caring and the health promotion.
