Philosopher, psychosociologist, ethnographer . . . Georges Lapassade began by establishing his philosophical anthropology in his book L’entrée dans la vie. Based on the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and philosophy, it sets out the nature of a neotenic man, that is to say his incompleteness: his lifelong journey, his development, his anatomy, and his psyche are signs of a specific immaturity, a youth that never stops completely. While presenting the major themes of the book, this paper highlights some of the constraints Lapassade had to resolve in order to use this work as a PhD dissertation, which opened it up to new interpretations.
