The child who tries to persuade his mom that “dad agrees with him” tests their educational coherence. Similarly, young people who falsely accuse adults of mistreating them to child protection services are exploring a disharmony of the educational consensus. These bring the family and the system into conflict and bring out an unconscious discord. This paper views them as a prism that shows the invisible transcendence of society vis-à-vis family authority. The child invites us to interpret the false claims of mistreatment as the symptomization of a collective issue about the authority relationship.
