Gilles Ferry played an important role in psychosociology, with respect to both his approach to pedagogical research and his construction of educational practices, taking into account the situation of the teacher in the classroom considered as a group. This paper reviews Ferry’s background from the 1940s when he began as a teacher and researcher to his years in the education department of Nanterre University. It illustrates the unity of the professional life of a committed psychosociologist.
