There is no complete theory of the mind without integrating discernment. There is a strong tradition, founded on Augustine and crowned by Aimé Forest, in which discernment is taken seriously as a dimension of thought understood in the sense of wisdom. This reflection, however, is far from having developed all the themes associated with discernment as an indispensable element of thought. This theory of discernment leads us indeed to revolutionize the theory of knowledge in the sense of a pneumatic-noetic epistemology (Blondel, Chapelle).
