“We Will Grow Old Together.” How Women Cope with a Couple’s Reunion When They Have Just Retired

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2017. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Experiencing the transition to retirement seems likely to induce disorder in many women’s psychic scenes. As often happens, retiring from one’s job is the focus of cherished expectations associated with merit and deliverance. Yet, it also portends getting on in years: it cannot therefore be envisaged without dealing with the problems incurred by coping with age. In support of research interviews conducted with sixty to sixty-six-year old retired women, this article aims to understand both the complexity and singularity of the psychic work required by such transitioning experience, by focusing on the problematic couple’s reunion in terms of the women involved. Because they are underpinned by dependence and aging, a couple’s reunion can lead to manic adjustments in some women.
