Many changes characterize the social status of the so-called “retired” person. Firstly, we briefly present here some statistics and specific Canadian and Quebec policies concerning retirement: sociodemographic data, public and private financing, employment, health care. . . More specifically, psycho-sociological issues of lived experiences of retirement are highlighted, based on the testimony of persons who pass through that life transition. The analysis refers to data produced from the authors’ twelve years of experience in leading research and training seminars using individual and small group life narrative methodology. Different configurations or ways of “re-treatment” of one’s own life are thus described, representing a sort of typology of retirement, underlining the singular course of each living experience of the person.
