This article describes the logic of the digital activism of supporters of the four main candidates for the French presidential election in Spring 2022 (Reconquest, RN, LREM and LFI). A set of interviews conducted with members of each of these parties and movements show their motivations, practices and representations, particularly on the digital ground. By questioning them about their relationship to party guidelines, the time spent on activism, and the way they manage their online identity, the survey highlights a first result: digital technology favours, reinforces and makes more visible a trend towards the individuation of commitment. Moreover, online activism practices are relatively artisanal, quite far from the image of digital activism organized from the collection and use of massive data on the electorate or driven by artificial intelligence. The image of the lay digital activist is thus somewhat removed from the purposes of campaign strategy-makers and is closer to that portrayed by the sociology of activism.
