Projection and narcissistic transference during projective tests with aging and elderly adults

The projection mobilised during the administration of the projective tests can find different forms of expression: it can support representative activity through the construction of responses to Rorschach and stories to TAT, or overflow it, expressing itself through comments, criticisms and addresses made to the clinician. Basing their reflection on the conditions of transfer defended by the School of Paris, the authors show how these projective movements can participate in the effects of narcissistic transfer from the analysis of 30 Rorschach and TAT protocols of women and men aged 50 to 85 year olds consulted for worry related to the experience of memory failures but not suffering from any neurological pathology. The investment in mirror, marked by idealization, the claim of originality of the answers, the refusal of the effect of the clinician and the test on oneself, the attention paid to the image of oneself and the attacks of the clinician are revealed so many clinical expressions of these singular projective manifestations.
