In Europe, approximately 204,000 women per year suffer from postnatal post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD). It is estimated that twenty to forty-eight percent of women meet, at least partially, the criteria for post-traumatic stress after childbirth. Having a major impact on family life, this pathology represents a key perinatal public health issue. To date, in Belgium, this issue has been poorly addressed in research and healthcare guidelines. The aim of this article is to illustrate the benefits of a transdisciplinary approach in a clinical pathway toward the effective treatment of postnatal PTSD.
