The conflict between FARC guerillas and the Columbian state raised a death toll of 220,000 between 1958 and 2012, which was the year the peace negotiations in Havana began. Columbian armed forces forged an efficient counter-insurrection campaign that has weakened FARC considerably. In June 2016, the government and rebel forces signed an historic agreement. However, the ceasefire seems fragile and conditions of peace are yet to be established.
