President Pena Nieto’s vision for Mexico included a concerted effort to combat narco-trafficking, and for profound economic reform. But, four years after his arrival in power, violence and corruption remain generally widespread. The country’s economy, destabilized by the global crisis, remains weak, and social reforms have seen little impact. The political system is still undermined by a largely powerless partocracy system.
