Since the death of Hugo Chavez in 2013, Venezuela has become mired in crisis. The political opposition is divided and cannot manage to join forces against President Maduro. The President has been taking increasingly controversial measures, such as setting up a compliant national constituent assembly. The country’s economy is dependent on oil and is suffering from its drop in price. Inflation is now out of control, and extreme poverty is increasing.
