The “small” Pacific island nations are larger than they seem: the maritime area of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia spreads over 40 million km2. However, the ocean’s biodiversity is affected by global warming and the rising water threatens the inhabitants of some islands. The Pacific countries, despite their heterogeneity, have managed to unite to try and make their voices heard in various diplomatic bodies.
