This paper focuses on a decree for judges from Messene that was found in that very city and was published at the beginning of the 20th century. This inscription has undergone a detailed examination by L. Robert (OMS I, p. 51-56) and others. Until now, the city that published this decree has not been identified: as a matter of fact, the internal criteria provided by this text were not compelling. The decree only mentions an ambassador, a certain Areton son of Nikasias. It is now possible to note that his name and patronym are also brought together, though in reverse order, in the prosopography of Larissa. Moreover, the recently discovered decrees of Larissa enable us to restitute a specific legal phrase that has so far only been found in Larissa and that could be considered as a kind of label of the city that took this decree in honor of the judges from Messene: καὶ ἀναϕέρειν (τὸ ψήϕισμα) ἐν ταῖς ψήϕοις. It is thus possible to restitute this decree in a most plausible manner and to assert that it should take place in the corpus of the Larissan decrees.
