Bashar Al-Assad thinks he won the war that broke out in 2011, although there are still some pockets of rebellion and the violence is increasing again. With the eyes of the international community fixed on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Assad’s government continues to brutally reestablish its authority over a large part of Syria. Syrians are watching helplessly as he restores an authoritarian, military regime while the country is gradually reintegrated into the regional order.
