However, republican secularity can also be understood through its philosophical implications: those of moral individualism, a social system based on solidarity, critical rationalism, universalist humanism. Thus, thanks to three competing models— demos, laos, ethnos—it is possible to measure what was politically at stake for republican secularity in fragmented societies undermined by communitarian regression.
