This article reflects upon the formulation and content of Britain’s Africa policy since New Labor assumed office in 1997. It starts by analyzing the different actors involved in making Britain’s Africa policy before examining how successfully New Labor has met its three stated objectives of promoting peace, prosperity, and democracy on the continent. The final section explores Britain’s response to the Nepad as the current vehicle through which Blair’s government hopes to achieve its objectives in Africa.
