The Muslim Brotherhood: Towards a critique of wishful thinking
Type de matériel :
91
The integration of moderate Islamists is a necessity if a democratic transition is to succeed. To define moderation, experts use specific parameters, and claim that some Islamists, including the Muslim Brotherhood, satisfy these. The author tries to prove that this is debatable in the case of the Brotherhood. He analyzes political discourses, social practices, ideologies, and their dynamics, emphasizing the sectarian dimension of the Brotherhood, in order to show that the necessary step for democratization—separation of predication and political action—will be extremely difficult to achieve. He thus offers a critique of the optimistic paradigms.
