On January 14, 2011, President Ben Ali fled Tunisia following a month of popular uprisings. By participating in the demonstrations, lawyers have shown their support for the mobilization. The involvement of the Tunisian Bar within the protest movement cannot be distinguished from the ways the regime has tried to manipulate the legal profession. The fear that the Tunisian bar might be politicized led the Ben Ali regime to harass the profession. In doing so, he has involuntarily pushed the majority of lawyers to openly criticize its regime.
