Proximity management and remote work: The key factors for success

Remote work is not a new phenomenon and is developing in different forms under the impulsion of information and communication technologies. The hospital world is no exception. Representative of this situation, central managers are at distance from teams. They implement an embodied and operational management to allow the organization of care. The health context that we are currently in has clarified this distancing, sometimes accelerated it quickly. Between benefits, growing interest, and regulatory obligation, the equation has proved complicated for health care managers to resolve. We therefore pose the question of which tools to mobilize to reconcile distance and proximity. To answer this question, we carried out a study based on ten semi-structured interviews. While our results corroborate the use of operational and relational tools, they above all highlight the need for situational management to bring together organizational distance and relational proximity.
