In this article, the author explores the field of clinical decision support. He expands on the issues at hand by referring to the principles and history of science and technology. He proposes an analogy with the psychological development of the child to emphasize the extent to which the scientific approach is bound up in a specific context. Indeed, the scientific approach is rooted in underlying assumptions that shape and influence practices. The author gives some clinical illustrations.
