The term “democratorship” refers to a wide range of differing regimes that have one feature in common: a combination of authoritarian and democratic elements. Several criteria can be employed to distinguish between regimes within this vast domain: they concern electoral democracy (the degree of competition in elections and the real power of elected representatives) and liberalism (the guarantee of liberties, separation of powers, and the rule of law).
