After a long period of collective amnesia following decolonization, colonial issues are back in public debates and have been at the center of controversies with the 2005 French law on colonialism. In a context of revived conflicts of memory, we propose to study the link between pied-noir public opinion and the making of memory policies. We shall see how the pieds-noirs put pressure on the political class for their memory demands to be put on the agenda and the influence they exert within the political domain.
