Separation Anxiety in Children with ADHD

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2013. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity, also known as ADHD, has become a public health concern. More and more studies on ADHD are carried out, but few address the possible links between ADHD and separation anxiety disorder. The purpose of this transversal study was to evaluate the comorbidity between the two disorders and more specifically, the links between hyperactivity and pathological separation anxiety. Two groups of five children were set up: one group with hyperactivity and the other group without hyperactivity. The attention of these ten children (with a mean age of 9 years, 8 months) was assessed with the TEA-Ch (Lussier & Flessas, 2006) and/or the NEPSY scale (Korkman et al., 2003). In addition, they were assessed using three tales from the projective “Tales Test” (Royer, 1978) in order to evaluate their separation anxiety. Results showed that separation anxiety disorder was indeed present in children with ADHD. However, contrary to our expectations, the signs of pathology were no greater in hyperactive children with attention deficit than in children with attention deficit alone. Additional studies with a larger sample of children would shed further light on these findings.
