In this article, we describe the gradual opening up to the outside world of a child with autism spectrum disorder within a therapeutic group in a part-time therapeutic center for children. Investment from adults, along with these adults’ digestion of the child’s different internal movements, enabled the child to make positive progress, and to construct for himself an internal world that was solid enough to enable him to engage with the other children and build relationships with them.
