Representations of family ties by adults who were placed in early care / a qualitative study

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2022. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : This qualitative study investigates representations of family ties of adults who were in care before age three until adulthood, and who spent at least part of their childhood with a foster family. The biographical narratives of 13 individuals were analyzed using groundedtheory to understand more clearly the experience of living between two families. The results indicate that as children, their relationships with their parents were marked by feelings of abandonment and intrusion, due to their parents’ discontinuous presence and pathology. The participants have long doubted their status within both of their families and suffer from a lack of knowledge of their own biography and filiation. The discussion highlights the participants’ stories in reference to attachment theory and the concept of filiation and suggests rethinking the dual family affiliation of children in early care.
