A disease of the 21st century, autism corresponds to the ideology of global communication that governs modernity. It also responds to conceptions of language expressed in works from the past century. Stigmatized by the notion of deficit, which is expressed in treatment attempts rooted in the idea of repair, this paper shows that the capacities these subjects have present an opportunity for treatment that respects their singularity.
