Media news coverage is disrupting our society: The denunciation of sexual abuse suffered in childhood, domestic violence, the lack of support for foster children (etc.). This denounced violence liberates the speech of those who can speak. We will describe here the specific usage patterns of patients who use substances to survive their traumas and therefore the specific clinical characteristics of traumatized patients in addictology. These symptoms of psychotrauma can be confusing for addictology professionals when providing support. Resistance is seen in two forms: that of addictology specialists without full training in psychotrauma, and that of patients who have not identified or had the opportunity to verbalize the psychological repercussions of exposure to such events. With a care practice in an addictology service and a mobile team (EMTCA) dedicated to the support of eating disorders, we offer help in identifying psychotraumas intertwined with addictive behaviors.
