Implementing the notions of “clinical setting” and “dispositif” in the light of group formations

The purpose of this article is to question the specificities of the clinical setting and the dispositif in group formations, be they therapeutic, training, or supervision groups. We put forward the idea that the clinical setting of a group formation is the place in which the host institution and its members deposit “syncretic sociability.” We also propose that the dispositif, as a set of elements delineating the relationship of the group to time and space, is the expression of a third-party function of the framework between the group and the institution. An analysis of a supervisory experience in a mission locale (a place where young people can seek support and advice about work, health, training, and so on) will support our discussion.
