Equitherapy or equine mediation has been part of clinical psychopathology research for years, just as the bond between animals and humans has been a core preoccupation in various scientific fields. This study is based on a practice with children presenting with behavioral disorders and difficulties in engaging in thinking processes, in conjunction with early bonding deficiencies. The observations reported in this article illustrate the quality of the transferential relationship established between children, therapists, and horses. The horse embodies maternal qualities, allowing the children to work on early bonding deficiencies. It also offers support to the therapists struggling with interpreting group experiences. These observations highlight the relevance of equitherapy for children with insecure relationships to their environment.
