This article focuses on the conditions for maintaining and sustaining devices and organizations responsible for the preventive management of intermittent and low frequency phenomena. It offers a sociological study centered on the modalities of enactment and operation of a locust invasions management system in Mauritania. From an empirical analysis at three levels (a study of the historical conditions of the structuring of preventive control device against locust invasions, a study of contrasted management speech which accompany the construction of a watchful waiting, ethnographic study in a national locust control center) the authors propose an interpretative analysis which leading to the proposal and the characterization of the notion of transitional-boundary-objects. This work proposes an original contribution to the analysis of the monitoring procedure in the structuring of the regimes of biosecurity involving unstable life forms.
