Knowledge syncretism in biodynamic wine growing

In line with previous works about the blurry zone between beliefs and knowledge, this article presents the syncretism between different kinds of knowledge (scientific, farmers, experiential, sensitive, supra sensitive, peri-scientific and esoteric) used by practitioners of biodynamic wine growing. We analyse first the composition of this syncretism and then how winegrowers manage to articulate those different knowledge that are usually seen as incompatible. The hypothesis we defend is that the coherency of this syncretism lays first on the incorporation of knowledge within practice and sensitivity and then, on a process of initiation that goes from an open biodynamic farming, grounded on experience, to a more esoteric biodynamic practice based on supra-sensitivity.
