This article shows how a new normative order has formalized, within international managerial literature in the recent, post-crisis years (2008–?), what we will call “sustainable city,” in addition to the other “cities” defined namely by Luc Boltanski. The overarching principle of the sustainable city is the valorization of human, ecological, and social resources. In the economic field, the attention to extra-financial value, the recreation of resources, and long-term perspectives are characteristic of a sustainable world. The article ends by considering how post-crisis capitalism has appropriated itself the idea of sustainability in order to generate a new wave of profit.
