The Act in the Play

Play imitates human actions in the form of metaphores, fictions and make believe. This article insists on the ‘free action’ (Huizinga) and on the ways in which games can count as practical and sensitive moral models for concrete actions, while not confounding with these actions. In addition, imitation ( mimèsis) must be articulated with participation ( méthexis), and hence to forms and values of action. This, in turn, can lead to a poetic of action.
